Nenagh Ormond U15's v Suttonians
Nenagh Ormond under 15s played Suttonians from Dublin on Sunday last. Nenagh Ormond seniors would have clashed horns with Suttonians in the past but this was the first game at youth level. The game was played on the all-weather surface and with the weather good it made for an entertaining game. Nenagh again like last week were slow to start but in fairness to them their defence held firm. Nenagh were first to score, number 8 Anluan White collected the ball in midfield, weaved to beat some defenders and then outpaced their fullback to score. The extras were added. From the resulting drop off Luke Slattery collected the ball and took off, beating the first defender with a powerful hand off and ran the length of the field to score. Again Suttonians came back but Nenagh matched their opponents, with Shaun Murphy making two critical turnovers. Nenagh scored again before halftime. Cian Murphy and Shane Gleeson made good ground up the wing and the ball was moved infield to Harry Walsh who moved the ball into space. He offloaded to Luke Slattery who powered over the line to score. Just before half time Suttonians scored a converted try.
The second half was a tighter tussle with neither team giving an inch. Nenagh's defence was outstanding with Alexander Monko giving an exhibition of chop tackling. Nenagh scored two more tries. The first one by Anluan White. There was some great interplay amongst the forwards with Aidan Stead punching the hole with a great carry who then had the composure to offload to Anluan who beat the last defender to score. Suttonians struck back with a try but that seemed to spur Nenagh on. Scott Powell made a break up the middle and was destined to score but he was tracked well by the last defender. Scott then offloaded to the supporting Luke Slattery who dotted down to complete his hat trick.
Overall it was a good team effort. All players worked really hard in defence and attack. Like any game there is always bits to work on in training which continues Wednesday evening. Thanks to Suttonians for the game.
