Nenagh Ormond played UL Bohs in the north Munster league in Annacotty on Sunday last. Conditions were perfect for a fast flowing game rugby. Bohs kicked off and Nenagh on gathering possession cleared their lines. On returning the ball Bohs moved the ball quickly to the left winger and caught the Nenagh defence napping with their winger rounding the defenders to score under the posts. That score spurred Nenagh into action and for the next 25 minutes we controlled large parts of the game. We were awarded a penalty inside the 22 and Charlie Talbot kicked it. We kept the momentum going and scored a try soon after. A brilliant maul down the left brought us inside the 22 and after receiving advantage we moved the ball where Ben Madden carried and at the next ruck the ball found its way to Cody O Connor who drew the defender and passed to Anluan White who powered his way over the line. Conversion was just wide. From the kick off Nenagh were turned over at ruck time and Bohs kicked to the corner but a good lineout defence helped us to releave the pressure and clear our lines. We got the next score soon after. We were awarded a penalty well inside the 22, Oisin Ryan carried well and got us over the gain line and then Aidan Steed took the next ball and did really well to get over the line, Charlie Talbot added the extras. Charlie then added another penalty soon after. To leave the score 18-7. Bohs got the last score of the half an unconverted try just before half time to leave the score 18-12. The second half kicked off and Bohs came out on the attack. As Bohs got their way into our half the referee blew the whistle and halted play. Nenagh were reduced to 14 players for the remainder of the game. From that attack Nenagh showed great character to hold them out with some try saving tackles on multiple occasions. Bohs did get their reward for all the pressure mid way through the half with three tries to leave a 15 point gap. In fairness to the Nenagh team we got the next score, great work by Cian Murphy who was outstanding all game brought play inside the 22. And after a few phases the ball made its way to Jack Gleeson who dotted down, with Charlie adding the difficult conversion. That left an 8 point gap and Nenagh had something to play for. Next score was crucial but unfortunately next score went Bohs way. We scored another try before soon after, again Cian Murphy making the break after good work by Luke Slattery. Dara Boland was hauled down close to the line and then Alex Monko carried and used his footwork to get over the line. Bohs got 2 late tries to leave the final score 50 -28. Overall, first half we played very well in patches and showed great attack structure.
Second half was a different affair where we seemed to lose structure especially in defence which lead to some easy tries being conceded.
Next game is Thurles away in first round of Pan Munster group stages.
